NEVER. Your flat might fall IN, from the wall. When playing on a tennis court, not a wall, it will hit the fence, skipping the court like a champ. If you hit with top-spin it will land longer than it comes from the wall. And it will bounce long and high, when coming from the wall it will bounce like a slice and not even closer to what you think.

Last thing is the cost. A wall is free while a machine costs $1200 or more. You also have to buy 150 balls compared to a single can used with the wall. Yes some machines can vary their shots more than others, but these units will cost around $3,000. I'd like to hear what others think.
When hitting against the wall, it’s easy to predict where the ball will bounce back, unlike a tennis match, where you don’t really know where your opponent will hit the ball or what type of shot he’ll hit. Even though you can predict, where the ball is bouncing it doesn’t mean that you don’t need to move your feet.
